EDITORIAL ROOMS HOUGHTON MIFFLIN COMPANY4 PARK STREET BOSTON April 27th, 1910. Dear Mr. Muir, We have read the journal
of your First Summer in the Sierra with uncommon interest. It takes the reader out of doors and up into the mountain air,
it seems to us, with extraordinary vividness. A contract for its publication will presently be sent you, and if you will send
us at your convenience the illustrative material we shall just it forward at once. If, as we imagine, most of the sketches
are in the nature of incidental drawings, we shall probably plan to insert them in the body of the page, as text cuts, which
always gives a pleasant and familiar aspect to a book. With our hearty thanks foe this new book, of the success of which
we shall be sanguine, we are Sincerely yours, illegible John Muir, Esq.04749
