letterhead 12 illegible 13 St. Andrew Square, Glasgow, 29th, July '04 My dear Professor, Very many thanks not only
for 'The Mountains of California' but also for the kindly thought which prompted you to send me such a welcome gift. I shall
read it again with great pleasure. Be sure that whenever I hear the Old Hundred I shall think of you giving the birds squirrels
a musical evening. Tho I may not like them be able to leave I shall in imagination find myself on illegible Siberia listening
to the story of your wanderings and of the escapades of your boyhood. I had a rare treat with you in the Pacific and I shall
remember it all my life. Since my return home I have been busy as my brother had to go to France. It was however with a very
lazy feeling that I started work even yet I have a cant-be-bothered feeling which I throw off with difficulty- I had a pleasant
enough rush thro' this? 03418
