Martinez, Jan 18, 1897. My dear Johnson, Dont write any more letters to Elliot McAllister Sec of the Sierra Club They
will only be thrown away, for he is only a dull booby politician. At a directors meeting held last Saturday, our Vice president
Olney offered a resolution advising the recession of Yosemite to form part of the National Parkwhich naturally it is, when
McAllister got up read a letter of yours angrily declared he did not see why any cranky man in New York should interfere with
Californias parks etc. Prof Davidson also objected, saying California ought to be able to mind her own affairs without aid
of them eastern fellers. A majority of the board present however favored recession-but it was deemed best to wait a full meeting
of the board endeavor to get unanimous consent before bringing the matter to vote. McAllister is nothing but a trimming politician.
Dont waste another letter on him. Ever Your John Muir 10021
