letterhead October 2, 1905 Dear Mr. Muir: Your letter, telling the story of your afflictions, has pained me inexpressibly,
but I am glad you are out in the wild, where if any comfort can come to you, it will come from the free, wind-blown, arid
land which we both love. I hope your daughter may soon recover and that you yourself may gain strength from the pure desert
