Built after World War I, Joe Bickerstaff built and operated Joe's Place in Muir Woods, a popular gathering spot where hikers
and railroad patrons danced and bought refreshments. The building was located in the 1920's annex parking lot in Muir Woods.
It was known as a notorious gathering spot for North Beach residents. It was rumored to be bootleg establishment during prohibition.
