Draft of short article, perhaps, or it may be that of a letter, though no address is attached, in note-book 59 NOV. 1900
(75) I am utterly opposed to the injustice of exchanging denuded reserve lands for an equal number of acres of outside timber
land. Not even for a much desired extension of a reserve should such unjust money-making schemes be for a moment encouraged.
I for one am utterly opposed to it. This Tahoe swindle has been planned years ago and pushed industriously. In particular
the influence of the sierra Club has been persistently sought under plausible arguments in which the injustice of the exchange
has been concealed. In a word, then, I am in favor of the extension of the Tahoe Reserve by just means only. The grossest
frauds against the Government have already been perpetuated through this lien land arrangement, and every good citizen should
raise his voice against them. John Muir 02890
