Trestles -- California -- Turlock
Description:
Wooden flumes (chutes) were first used to transport water from the reservoir in the foothills over the twenty three miles
to the Turlock region in the valley. The hilly terrain can be seen in this photograph. Wooden trestles were built to support
the flumes over deep ravines. Upon arrival at the main lateral system of canals, the Turlock Irrigation District would divert
the water to farms for the irrigation of their crops.
