Martinez, Feb. 7. 1899 My dear Cousin, I am very sorry to hear of the severe illness of your dear mother at the same time
glad that she is now getting better. You must have had a weary anxious time I fondly hope pray that she will speedily recover
with the coming good weather of the spring. This has been a stormy sickly winter over most all of our country. Mrs Muir has
been in bed eight weeks with the Grippe is not yet able to be up though getting better slowly. Wanda also was laid up two
weeks but is now quite well. Maggie is better than usual the rest of the family are about as well as ordinary. Write again
as soon as you receive this for I am anxious. Ever with love to your mother self Your Cousin John 02540
