illegible Chicago, March 17,1909. ARTICLE ABOUT THE PETRIFIED FOREST BY JOHN MUIR. Mr. illegible C.T.A., San Francisco,
Cal. Dear Sir: Find attached our current Petrified Forest folder. It needs to be brought up-to-date. I have a notion that
Mr. John Muir is just the man to rewrite the portion of it which refers to the age of thedeposits, how they were formed and
other scientific data, winding up with a description of what the scene is to-day in the five different districts. We can add
here necessary facts about how to get there and the accommodations. May I trouble you, in a casual way, to find out from
Mr. Muir if he would care to write such a story and what the probable expense would be? Anything from his pen will be more
widely read than if issued anonymously; besides that he is an authority on the subject and we want to tell the public the
truth. Yours truly, illegible Enc. 06256
