THE WORLD'S WORK DOUBLEDAY, PAGE COMPANY-PUBLISHERS 133-137 EAST SIXTEENTH STREET, NEW YORK WALTER H. PAGE, EDITOR Jan.
20, 1909. Dear Mr. Muir: This really is a barbarous civilization that we have, isn't it? No sooner do you get the Yosemite
out of reach of one set of vandals than another set begin. Well, we want to help. I am having Strother, who is now in San
Francisco, bother you about a brief article concerning this last attack on the Yosemite. I do hope you will yield to his persuasions.
We want to hit that hard, and we can't hit it hard except by your help. Heartily yours, illegible John Muir, Esq.,
Martinez, California. 04409
