Dear Mr. Johnson: Martinez, Dec. 1, 1908 The 3 or 4 Hetch Hetchy schemers are far from satisfied with the Garfield award--
as you will see by these clippings they are going to Congress to make a desperate effort to get what they want, as I knew
they would. Viz,permission to dam H. H. at once without reference to Lake Eleanor Cherry Creek. For it is Electric power they
want, not water. Of course we must fight'em I think we'll beat 'em The labor unions all voted for water bonds, as they do
for all sorts of bonds making work for them, while little or nothing of the cost to the tax payers falls upon them. A few
months ago subscriptions were called for to raise 10000 for the H. H. scheme, but less than 1/2 this paltry sum was raised
by the citizens in reponse to frantic appleals by the schemers, with best wishes; faithfully yours John Muir Martinez,
