First draft of letter,in note-book . January, 1903 Dear Marian Hooker: Your letter makes me lonesome. Goodbye. Alas,
alas, ou0r happy Kaweah-Whitney band, how fast and far it is flying apart. But it's natural - the way of everything mortal.
Goodbye, Heaven keep you.Possibly I may meet you, as Sargent and I, if I can get certain work out of the way, intend to start
in May or June for Europe, Siberia, Japan, Java, etc. to see trees and rocks. It was so kind of you to send those most interesting
cypresses. Goodbye, John Muir
