San Joaquin River Steamer and Barge.

Barges -- California
Paddle steamers -- California
Description:
Four unidentified men stand on the upper deck of a paddle wheel steamboat that is towing a barge. A small part of the paddle
wheel is visible at the back (stern) end of the boat. Note the width of this river which was a barrier to those attempting
to cross rivers before bridges were built. People and goods could be transported via the river system between Stanislaus
County and San Francisco on boats similar to this one. The attached note indicates either the name of the boat or that it
is on the San Joaquin River, one of three major rivers that flow through the county.
