thanks me for many photos of my taking as to his trip to New England the southern states Sierra Club nearly dead Happy
New Year Martinez, Dec 28. 1898 My dear Mr Luken - I thank you heartily for the magnificent lot of forest photographs
just arrived. Few could guess that so many grand pictures of forest, garden mountain could be found in San Bernardino Range.
I got home about a month ago. Spent the summer in New England, Canada the southern states studying the forests, of course
I had a grand time especially in the Alleghanies. The forests there of oak, maple, hickory, Linden, Magnolia, Liriodendron,
Oxydendron Tupelo nyssa etc are perfectly glorious. I'm trying to write about them Our Sierra club seems half dead I dont
know but you south Cal people will have to start another alpine forest club. With many thanks wishing you all a Happy New
