Description:
Throckmorton Avenue from above the Madrona Street intersection, looking towards Lytton Square in Mill Valley. On the left
is a sign for the Hotel Madrona at 170 Throckmorton Street. It opened in 1892 as the Bellvue Hotel, then was demolished in
1920. The blue rock steps, visible on the far left, are still there today. A sign for C.J. Dowd's Fashion Stables (157 Throckmorton)
is on the right side of the street. The Dowd's building burned in 1910. In the center at the far end of the street, a locomotive
from the Mount Tamalpais and Muir Woods Railway pushes a train from the rear across Lytton Square. Horse drawn vehicles are
parked in front of the shops along the dirt road and shoppers go about their errands. Telephone poles are seen along the
street and houses are seen on the hill on the other side of Lytton Square.
