Martinez Dec. 2, 1908 Dear Mr Calkins; I was very glad to get your kind refreshing letter with its cheery good tidings
of your new home work. I wish you were nearer so I might avail myself of your kind invitation, now I am compelled to work
alone in the big house. When I think of moving south I see that a long hard time will be required to get my notes books ready
for shipment. I've been trying to sort my notes, groan aghast at the vast mass. I never before knew that I was so crishingly
killingly rich. To work the stuff into literature will require another three score ten good work years. But I'm in pretty
fair health, so is Helen at Daggett, things in general are less disturbing 09207
