LAW OFFICES OFSAMUEL S. SHULLGERMAN-AMERICANBANK BUILDING TOP FLOOR ST JOSEPH. MO.Jany 6 th '08Mr. John Muir,California.Dear
Sir:I have a few minutes to address a line to you on amatter.I may be taking a liberty, but I know of no one else to whom
I could write on such a subject. From your : Mountains of California, I see you have loved illegible what you call at page
57 the Alpen Glow .You mention the same illegible light on otherpages of that same book.I have seen the same light from Pikes
Peak at sun rise.It illegible comes faint at first, then stronger and presently fades out. It is so strong as to shade out
the earth below. You did not and could not overdraw the grandeur and sublimity of such scene. It may be seen from many mountains
for all I hnow. It seems you saw it on Ritter.I should be pleased to know if youhave learned what cause this light.I have
asked many who gave me a shake of the head. You would pleasure me by information as to the cause.Very respty,Samuel S. Shull,
