Sausalito, Cal. Jan 27 1908. Mr. John Muir, Dear Sir: I am reading your book Our National Parks. The tone of it
leads me to believe, that you will give me information, so that I, too, may climb the mountains of Yosemite. The facts of
my case are as follows. I am obliged to go East this summer and probably will not return. I feel that it would be sacrilege
to leave California without having seen something of Yosemite and the big trees. For this purpose, I have at the most two
weeks time (say early in July) and about 150 for my wife and myself. My wife and I are both 27, and as strong and healthy
as we well could be. Mountain climbing is my great passion, and she has shown herself fully able to keep up with me. For example,
she walked with me to Mt Hamilton and back from San Jose, stopping overnight at 04045
