(Original in possession of Prof. Harry F. Reid) Martinez, Cal., Dec. 5, 1908. Dear Mr. Reid: I thank yon for kindly
sending me the report of the International Commission on Glaciers. I wish I could have the pleasure of talking over glacial
matters in general. I want to write on Alaska, but several other books must first be got off my hands. I trust you are all
well. The little boy must now be a man. When next you come to this side the continent let me know as long as possible beforehand.
I should be in Baltimore this month at the annual meeting of the Am.Alpine Club, but am now held here by my old enemy the
Grippe. Faithfully yours, JOHN MUIR (Envelope addressed to Prof. Harry Fielding Held, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore,
Md.) 04331
