Santa Barbara, July 17, '85. My dear friend Muir, I drop you this note merely to learn of your whereabouts,--whether at
home with your better half snugly tied up for the winter. If I don't hear from you I shall expect you are frozen up at Alaska.
I think I shall return East in the spring. If I could know that you were within hailing distance I would be on your track
and meet you, somewhere, before I left for the States . I am quite well at present and anxious to climb these mts. The old
man can't do it. If this finds you at home please let me know if it is your intention to leave for the mts. and when. Yours
truly, N. D. Stebbins Postal card addressed to Hon. John Muir, Scientist, Martinez, Contra Costa Co., California .
