Martinez, Dec. 28, 1908 Dear Mr Calkins: The fight for Hetch Hetchy Valley the Yosemite Park in general is on again, I
am sending you with this a few copies of a circular letter the Sierra Club is mailing to the members, urging the sending to
Congressmen protests against the City schemes. Your coming so bravely effectively to our help in the first battle I am anxious
to have you with us again. I think we must win, for civilization seldom takes so great a step backward even in these triumphant
dollar-laden commercial days. With kindest regards to Mrs Calkins your son wishing you all a good New Year, I am ever faithfully
yours John Muir Hope the frost has not injured your young hopeful trees 09206
