A photograph of a horse-drawn fire wagon in front of Berkeley Fire Department Hose Company No. 3 at 2017 Emerson Street.
Built in 1908, this site later became the home of Hose Company No. 5. Fire Chief James Kenney (standing nearest the wagon
and wearing a black overcoat) was Berkeley's first Fire Chief. He died in the line of duty in 1916. Standing next to Kenney
is Joseph Shrewsbury, the volunteer Fire Chief of Long Beach, California.
