Martinez, Claifornia Oct 13, 1896 Prof. R. Herrick Dear Sir- The Sierra Club will willingly publish a sketch of the
life of our esteemed fellow member Mr. Abbott in the January Bulletin We do not wish to limit you in the space required. I
think from 2000 to 3000 words could be got into this number. I would suggest that you give a short account of his mountaineering
in general as well as the last fatal ascent of Mt. Lefroy. The M.S. shlould be here about the middle of December at latest.
a few illustrations might be introduced Very truly Yours John Muir
