Martinez, California October, 1, 1895 My dear cousin, Coming down from the High Sierra, where I have been sauntering
sunning for six weeks, I found your welcome Edinburgh letter Gilderoy both of which I was glad to get, I thank you very much
for the kind thoughts care for me, the trouble you took to copy the Gilderoy. I think it is very interesting, this is the
first I have seen of it. You must have enjoyed the grand old town the fine sermons you heard, I hope the change of air has
been beneficial for your health. I remember Marie Hay quite well, I liked all the Hays it must be a great pleasure to be so
near them as to see them often Scotland is so small so is England. One cannot separate far on such an island which is one
