HOUGHTON MIFFLIN COMPANY 4 PARK STREET. BOSTON Dec. 11, 1912 John Muir, Esq., Martinez, Calif. Dear Mr. Muir: We
are sending you by this mail proof of the first five galleys in duplicate of the story of your boyhood and youth, and will
ask you kindly to revise and return to us the blue pencilled set, keeping the other for yourself. We trust that you will find
our divisions, chapter titles and captions satisfactory, but if not we illegible ll of course be glad to modify them as you
think best. The remaining proofs will follow speedily, and we shall be glad to have them returned at your early convenience.
