Stanford University, Calif. Aug 23, 1904. Prof. John Muir, Martinez, Calif. Dear Mr. Muir: I have just received your
book, The Mountains of California , which came as a most happy surprise to me. It was sent to my address at the Bishop Museum
in Honolulu but as I had returned to California the book was forwarded to me at Stanford University. From the delightful
way in which you remembered me I suspect you were pleased with the small panel of Koa wood I left in the steamer cabin for
you few things could have pleased me more than the beautiful inscribed copy of your splendid book. Before leaving Honolulu
I promised myself the treat of a talk with you. Will it be convenient for you if I should call for a few hours some day within
a week or two? I want to talk to you about forestry. Very truly. Alvin Seale. P.O. Box 149. Stanford University, Cal.
