1 Jan. 1, 1905 Mr. John Muir, My Dear Old Friend - Little Margaret, with her father and mother, drove up tonight shortly
after you left, and I had the pleasure of putting your gift into her little hand. She looked at it and said money, and I saw
it safely transferred to her mother's safe keeping, who will doubtless write her thanks. As for me I do not feel at all satisfied
with 03497 2 the few hasty, perfunctory words by which I acknowledged your handsome present to my three girls. Your
unwavering friendship is one of the great things for which I am truly thankful at the beginning of this new year, and no doubt
in the years to come, these three whom you have so kindly remembered today, will look back with love and pride upon the time
when they were distinguished by the friendship of John Muir. Sincerely and gratefully yours, Mary L. Swett Hill Girt,
