Turlock Hotel (Turlock, Calif.)
Description:
The view in this photograph is from West Main Street looking east across the railroad tracks, in Turlock, circa 1903. Nels
Hultberg was the real estate agent who purchased land, plotted out the Hilmar Colony and began promoting the Turlock area
in 1902. To the left of the land sales building is one of the warehouses used to store bags of harvested grain until freight
cars on the railroad could haul it to markets throughout the country. The Turlock Hotel was owned and operated by Elizabeth
E. Allen until 1904. It was the first hotel in Turlock and had been moved from Westport in 1871-1872.
