October 15th, 1890. Confidential My dear Muir:- I send you herewith, in confidence, and to be returned to me for my
file, a copy of a letter which Irish has addressed to the Garden and Forest , but which I doubt if they will publish, as I
have exposed several of his false and misleading statements. That man's logic wi11 be the death of him. When he dies, it
will probably be by falling on his own pen. Meanwhile, it might be as well for you to tell me what is the basis of his silly
talk about you in the Yosemite. Would it be out of the question for you to send us, by the 1st of December, your article
on the King's River Can on? I, mean could we depend upon you to let us have copy then without fail? I see that the President
and others are to go to California next March or April to open the Stanford University, and we should like very much to have
the article about that time. The pictures will need to be engraved, and so far we can get nothing out of Robinson, who, however,
makes a very poor mouth. Will you not go to see him sometime at 506 Battery Street, when 0/105
