17 Martinez, Feb. 19, 1893. My dear Mr Johnson I am delighted with the salvation of the Sierra forests from the Tuolumne
to the Kern River. As to the recession of Yosemite to the National Park it must be made very soon in the natural order of
things, but no new bill can be got before this session of our legislature Our Sierra Club altogether refused to make a fight
at present on account of mismanagement, but the enclosed resolution was forwarded to Senator McAllister a few days ago. What
its fate or effect may be I dont know. Markham it is said by those who know him belongs to the SP. railroad. What they wish
he will do. Irish is to start for Washington in a day or two He is supposed to be the hired attorney of the Yosemite ring.
Every cordially your friend John Muir
