the summer as the extreme heat was too trying for both her and the little one. I wrote to Wanda but have not heard from her
for some time. Helen mentioned your having received the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters, from Yale. You must have a number
of honorary degrees now, but John that seems a very long, and I should think a difficult trip for you to be starting out on
now, and it must be very hot and trying too. Are you going alone or is there a party? I have been thinking so much about you
and I pray that you may be kept and blest in your work. We read your articles in the Atlantic Monthly entitled My first Summer
in the Sierra, It was very interesting and brought back old times when you wrote home so much of it in those early days and
