letterhead Jany 11, 1909 My dear Mr Muir- I have been quite ill for the past week- caught a bad cold which settled in
my bronchial tubes, and threatened the left lung, that was involved in the pneumonia attack of two winters ago. By careful
nursing and a sensible doctor - (Sherry) I feel that I have warded off an attack of pneumonia, tho' I shall have to be very
careful for several days yet. I learned that Prof James was expected down last week, so urged upon Mr Vroman to be sure to
see him carry out the plan I had suggested. illegible that I was urging upon you the immediate necessity of your writing your
autobiography. So that end? it was necessary to get at the details of your life, that were covered by your letters to Mrs
Carr. That you were very friendly to James and only desired copies of those letters c etc- Vroman reports to me by phone
this morning that he had a long conference? with James on those lines, and found him very desirous of getting into your good
graces. He has promised all we can ask, and I have 04401
