Original in possession of Miss Margaret Lunam, Dunbar, Scotland Albuquerque, N.M., December 21, 1905. My dear cousin:
To Mrs. Margaret (Hay) Lunam I am very sorry to learn by your last letter that both you and Maggie are so ill in the dark
winter weather as to be confined to the house. We are all about as usual except Maggie, Mrs. Reid, who has been very weak
for nearly a month, but is slowly getting a little better. Helen is getting through the winter pretty well, and is quite
cheerful with the hope that in a year or so of Arizona air she will be about as well as ever. Both Wanda and 1 are with her
at Adamana, Arizona, most of the time, so the old California home is empty and desolate, though I go back occasionally to
look after things. Sarah and David and his wife are wintering in Pacific Grove and are all well at last reports. Mary and
Daniel I seldom hear from, but were well when last heard from. I am sending a little money for the poor of Dunbar. Give my
love to Susan Gilroy, Jane Mather and the Hays and all my friends. Hoping Heaven will continue to bless you in every way,
I am ever, my dear cousin. Affectionately yours, John Muir. Wanda and I are here in New Mexico for a day buying some
things.03442
