16 N. Fairchild St Madison, Wis Jan 18, 1905 Mr. John Muir Dear Sir I found this envelope in my desk - I dont know
why it was not posted. But I have read it and send it after four years - Yet I dont know whether you are alive to read it.
Since I wrote, I have been as far as Denver on the verge of the Rockies - having taken my wife to a Sanitarium there on account
of lung trouble - She is still there and I here with my little girls - You, I presume, keep in touch somewhat with Madison
- It is as attractive, and more so, than ever - The University now has 200 instructors and 3000 students - When I came here
there were 200 students and 10 professors - I knew them all - There are only 3 or four left, old white-heads - Your old friend
Dr Butler, when I saw him last, was singularly vigorous. His thoughts are as clear as ever, his diction as decided pure vigorous
and his voice has the same old time ring that you must recall very vividly - As his friend and admirer I can send you this
greeting from a Stranger James R. Stuart 03513
