Martinez, Dec. 23, 1909 Dear Mrs Hooker Marian; Here's a charming morning, calm sunshine frost. Glorious Hooker weather
I said as I looked out of my den window saw a superb growth of white crystal ice-ferns adorning the tin roof. Fine for Marian,
all the sky medicine. This with holiday rest will drive away the last greedy stragglers of the flock of small cough folk to
other pastures or other worlds, leave her triumphantly able for the hard work ahead. I suppose it's now time for New Year
greetings. Most of them are easily said, but for those most loved no words that I know of are good enough. God's best luck
be yours the coming year all the years forever. So devoutly prays your friend John Muir
