Feb. 1880 3 I will probably leave the city today for the Tahoe region with Magee, spend a week there, then visit the
Bidwells at Chico on my way back, then deliver my lecture, pay you another visit, which I trust will result in our knowing
each other better. I was at John Swett s when the spicy apples arrived, which explains my tardiness in acknowledging the handsome
toothsome gift. The William s, Swett s, Upham s, Payot s all enquire kindly about the family, are glad to hear that Mrs Strentzel
is growing strong again. With honest thanks for your good advice I am ever yrs Cordially John Muir.
