425 II. Capital Ave., December 29th, 1901? Our good friend, Your beautiful book came on Christmas and the gift touched
me very much. It would have been dear Sister Kate's, I know, and I could see her smile and almost hear her expressions of
pleasure over your kind remembrance. I am reading it now with great interest. I have always loved trees. They are our friends
almost as much as human beings. Certainly we depend upon their beauty as much as anything God has made. The monarchs you tell
of thrill and inspire one. The world is very beautiful, it seems as if our Heavenly Father should leave those who strive to
do their best on this earth and take away only the worthless. It is so terribly lonely without my dear Leslie that I cannot
take hold of myself as I should and say happy memories . I am glad you can. They are sweet and loving memories, and I would
not part with them for all the world. I thank you for all you say of my blessed sister. Your appreciation of her is a great
comfort. I suppose your daughters have grown tall and are a continual pleasure to you. Your good works are spread far and
wide. I hope you keep well. Kind regards to Mrs. Muir. With good wishes and many thanks for all your kindness, I am, Ever
your friend, Mina Merrill. 02911
