ARNOLD ARBORETUM, HARVARD UNIVERSITY. Jamaica Plain, Mass., February -19,1897. My dear Muir: Are you making any general
attack on Judge McKtnn ? There is not much time to lose about this, and,unless he can be brought against us and now is the
time for action. firmly into line,there is no chance whatever of getting a bill passed this spring to authorize the use of
the military in the Reserves and parks. I. should think it would be possible to get some sort of a strong demonstration made
in Los Angeles and other southern communities; of course it will not be possible to accomplish anything without the active
support of the Secretary of the Interior, as every sheep man and thief in the western states and territories will be .Do not
