1267 Webster St., Oakland, Nov. 19/94. Dear John Muir, For the fruit of your land and the fruit of your brain, I thank
you. For this last, I cannot say how much I thank you, nor how glad I am to see you in covers. I began to think I should never
behold that Book with the eyes of the flesh, and was wondering if I should have to wait for your prose-poem on the Mountains
of God. As if all were not the 01877 2 Mountains of God I supposed your pubs. send you the press notices, but I enclose
one chanced upon in a paper sent me by my friend Miss Carpentier. If you already have it send this back. It is hardly the
kind of criticism I would like to see, for while the reviewer tells what the book is about and gives you credit for understanding
your subject, he says not a word about the consummate beauty of your work. I don't believe the man could tell 01877 3
a bird-carol from a steam-whistle, or note the difference between one of the poor abortive little hills of the East, and the
infinite heights of which you sing, for your book is a song, a grand song Love to all your family and yourself. Your old-time
friend, Ina Coolfrith? P. S. No, I cannot have Mr. Cheney's place x. I am disqualified by sex. x Librarian of S F Free
