Description
The firsts records in the collection consist of 75 bound volumes (ledgers, journals, day
books, and cash books) that pertain to university finances, the Palo Alto Stock Farm, the
Vina Ranch, Durham Ranch, and Lane Hospital (San Francisco). Volumes of note include board
ledgers for Encina and Roble dormitories, 1892-1903; repairs on campus houses, 1911-1913;
and herd register, cows and bulls [Vina Ranch], 1904-1915. Other materials in the collection
include academic payroll records, 1904 to 1946; audit reports, 1918-1919; statistical
analysis of income and expenses, 1922-1967; enrollment statistics and tuition rates by
academic year, 1891/92-1952/53; account book on repairs to university-owned houses,
1916-1919; cost records on major construction projects, 1929-1949; and cashbook for
individual student residences, 1945-1946. Additional accessions contain historical salary
rolls and account ledgers.

While University Archives is the owner of the physical and/or digital items, permission to
examine collection materials is not an authorization to publish. These materials are made
available for use in research, teaching, and private study. Any transmission or reproduction
beyond that allowed by fair use requires permission from the owners of rights, heir(s) or
