    Biography

    William C. Penry was born in Mississippi September 17, 1838. He came to San Francisco in 1857, where he worked for a few months as a printer. After leaving San Francisco he purchased an interest in the Folsom Dispatch newspaper, which he later sold. He founded a newspaper, the Folsom Telegraph, also sold. In 1863 or 1864 he moved to Jackson, where he reestablished the Amador Dispatch newspaper. He published it and aided in its publication for thirty-four years. He sold it in 1896. He was co-proprietor of the Amador Telegraph Company from approximately 1891 to 1895. He married Jennie Barton in 1870. He died on December 13, 1921.
