Abstract: Collection consists of Persian and Arabic manuscripts dating from the Safawid period to the end of the 19th century. Most
of the manuscripts reflect trends in early modern Iranian intellectual history, including original compositions, items from
school curricula, and works of popular religiosity. Also includes one Christian manuscript containing sermons translated from
Syriac into Arabic, dating from the early 19th century.
Physical Location: Stored off-site. All requests to access special collections material must be made in advance. To use this collection, search
the catalog by the name of this collection and select by box.

Processing Note
Collections are processed to a variety of levels depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived user
interest and research value, availability of staff and resources, and competing priorities. Library Special Collections provides
a standard level of preservation and access for all collections and, when time and resources permit, conducts more intensive

and Training (CFPRT), 2005.Original manuscript descriptions by Richard (Rouhollah) Karubian were transcribed by Piyapong Phongpatanakhun
in March 2003, and edited by Ali Anooshahr in 2005. Front matter by Manuscripts Division staff. These descriptions have been
superceded by catalog records created as part of the Islamic Manuscripts Initiative and data entry as provided by graduate
students through collaboration with UCLA's Islamic Studies Program.

Scope and Content
Collection consists of Persian and Arabic manuscripts, and one Syriac manuscript, dating from the Safawid period to the 20th
century. There are nine works of jurisprudence, four works of a theological nature, three works of popular religion, including
devotionals and martyrology, a notebook containing sample letters for royal audience, and a Syriac manuscript. The manuscripts
reflect trends in early modern Iranian intellectual history, including original compositions, items from school curricula,
and works of popular religiosity. The collection also includes a fine copy of Fay? al-Kashi's Minhaj al-nijat.
Organization and Arrangement
Manuscripts are arranged in original manuscript number order.
