Description
Correspondence, business records, printed matter, photographs, and maps, relating to American business investment in Mexico.
Background
Bion S. Gregory was a lawyer, businessman and land agent. Born in 1870 in Muscatine, Iowa, Gregory received his A.B. from Pacific Methodist College in 1889. He was admitted to the practice law in 1891, then graduated in 1893 from Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. Moving to Honolulu, Hawaii, Gregory operated the Bion S. Gregory Company, dealing in construction and household supplies, from 1897 to 1904. From 1905 to 1915 Gregory served as a land agent and landowner in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico. After 1915, Gregory lived in San Francisco, where he was known as an authority on mechanic's liens and other legal forms. Gregory died 1938 in San Francisco, California.
