Description
This collection contains the business records of Pedersen's Furniture Company, which was known as Santa Rosa's oldest family-owned
store until its closure in 2019. The collection includes family photographs, advertisements, ledgers and ephemera documenting
the history of the company. It was founded in 1892 by Jens Christian Pedersen, a Danish immigrant and cabinet maker. The collection
also includes photos of the 1906 earthquake and several issues of the Santa Rosa High School Newsletter.
Background
J.C. Pedersen, a Danish immigrant and cabinet maker, opened the doors of to the Pedersen family's first furniture store at
the corner of Fourth and A Streets in Santa Rosa, California in 1892. Since that time, four generations of the Pedersen family
owned and operated the Pedersen Furniture Company. As brothers and co-owners Ken and Paul Pedersen faced retirement and with
no other family members interested in continuing to operate the business, they decided to close the store in 2019.
