Description
The Models and Drawings of Schindler houses by Stefanos Polyzoides collection spans 12 linear feet and dates from circa 1986. The collection is composed of 15 models and drawings of 28 Schindler residences in the southern California area. The models and architectural drawings that compose this collection were the product of the exhibit The Architecture of R.M. Schindler.
Background
Stefanos Polyzoides was born in Athens, Greece. He received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Architecture from Princeton University. Polyzoides has been a working architect since 1967, taught at Princeton University, and at the University of Southern California from 1973 to 1997. In the early 1980s, Polyzoides received a Graham Foundation grant to study the residential design of R.M. Schindler, followed by another grant from the National Endowment for the Arts which allowed him to construct a traveling exhibition of Schindler’s residential architecture entitled The Architecture of R.M. Schindler. The exhibition traveled to Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia and San Sebastian, Spain. Polyzoides has written extensively on architecture, but his more well-known publications concern Schindler. Today, Polyzoides is a principle of the architectural firm Moule & Polyzoides founded in 1990 and located in Pasadena, California.
