Biographical / Historical
Strategic Communications is the central communications office of Cal Poly Pomona. It
serves as the main media contact for the university and also writes and distributes
press releases to members of the media. The office also manages the university's
branding and its social media accounts.
The office dates back to the early days of the university when it was known as
California Polytechnic College, Kellogg-Voorhis. In the 1951-1952 academic year,
Kenneth Young was appointed as head of public relations for what was then known as
the "New Bureau" for the Kellogg-Voorhis campus. Other names for the office over the
years have included the Office of Information Services, Cal Poly Pomona News and
Publications, Office of News and Publications, and the Office of Public Affairs.
Scope and Contents
The collection contains press releases and news clippings about university events and
activities; university faculty, staff, students, and alumni; and the university's
Arabian horses. The materials date back to when the university was known as Cal Poly
Kellogg-Voorhis and was a southern unit of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The collection is organized into the following series: Series 1. Press Releases and
Series 2. Clippings.
