    Historical Background

The National organization of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) was founded in 1972 in New York, NY. Their mission is to support, educate and advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. PFLAG has over 350 chapters in the United States including numerous chapters throughout California.

    Collection Scope and Content Summary

This collection offers a highly visual record of the activities of the Orange County (OC) chapter of the Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) national organization. The bulk of the records are photo albums, which provide a specific viewing context for the PFLAG photographs, reflecting how the group arranged and preserved its photographs. The clippings are primarily from Southern California area newspaper articles and cover lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) social and political issues in the United States from 1989-1994. While the collection does contain a selection of PFLAG newsletters, general organizational records were not included in the donation.

    Arrangement

Since the collection is very small, it is made up of one series that has been arranged first by format, thereunder by content.
