    Biographical Note:

    Harlan Hagen (b.1914 - d.1990) was born in North Dakota. His family moved to Southern California where he attended high school and community college. In 1936 he received his A.B. Degree from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1940 he received a law degree (L.L.B.) from U.C. Berkeley. After college he served in the United States Army (1943-1946).
    The first political office he held was that of city council member for the City of Hanford, California. By 1949, he began serving in the California State Assembly. He continued to serve in the Assembly until 1952 when he was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing the 14th District.
