    Historical Background

The Commission on the Status of Women was established on September 23, 1975, to assist the Orange County (Calif.) Board of Supervisors in its efforts to create an environment in which all women can develop their individual potential and contribute fully to the cultural and economic life of the community unhampered by discrimination based on gender. To achieve this goal, the commission advises the Board on women's issues and items of concern that are within the Board's scope of influence.
