Background
The Commission on the Status of Women was established on September 23, 1975, to assist the
Orange County (Calif.) Board of Supervisors in its efforts to create an environment in which
all women can develop their individual potential and contribute fully to the cultural and
economic life of the community unhampered by discrimination based on gender. To achieve this
goal, the commission advises the Board on women's issues and items of concern that are
within the Board's scope of influence.
